OA in Norway

The Norwegian Open Research Archive (NORA) and the Norwegian Digital Library have launched OpenAccess.no, a central location for OA information and advocacy in Norway --very analogous to Sweden's OpenAccess.se and Germany's Informationsplattform Open Access.

May brought the launch of OpenAccess.no in Norway. This website aims to contribute to an “effective system for open scientific communications in line with the primary goal of research: the widest possible dissemination of research results”. By providing a digital arena that brings together information on Open Access, services, OA journals, repositories, copyright information, news, links, and an overview of the state of Open Access in Norway, OpenAccess.no offers a comprehensive overview in the making.

According to the website itself: “Openaccess.no will contribute to making Norwegian research results more visible and openly accessible without barriers for all users both national and international.” Further: “Openaccess.no is an information site for all those who require more information about Open Access, i.e. freely accessible journals and open publication archives.” ...

Resolving the serials supply chain

Link resolvers and the serials supply chain [pdf] is the title of an interesting report commissioned by the UK Serials Group and written by James Culling. From the summary:
The current knowledge base data supply chain is characterized by a complex series of roles, relationships and inter-dependencies between publishers, other content hosts, subscription agents, link resolver suppliers, libraries and others.
The report argues that a lack of understanding between these stakeholders results in many inefficiencies.
The report discusses issues from different stakeholder perspective. It recommends the establishment of an organization which brings stakeholders together around a "code of practice for effective participation in the knowledge base supply chain". Counter is suggested as a model.

Library 2.0/Bibliotek 2.0

The Public Library Technology Institute ("TechExpress") fikk September 13, 2006, tre dynamiske bibliotekledere til å introdusere Library 2.0/ Bibliotek 2.0 for mer enn 275 bibliotekarer.

Nytt i Google

16. mai 2007: Google introduserer "universal search", som kan oversettes til samsøk eller integrert søk. Dvs. at et vanlig Google-søk nå inkluderer spesialsøk som man tidligere måtte gjøre separat i f.eks. blog search, images, video, maps osv. Resultatet presenteres samlet, men du kan også velge å bare se en av resultattypene ved hjelp av meny-/statuslinjer øverst i Google-skjermbildet.
